Former United States President Donald Trump is calling on NATO to come to the aid of Ukraine and join the fight to defend the Eastern Europe country.

Speaking to Republican National Committee donors last night, Trump said: “Are all these nations going to stand by and watch perhaps millions of people be slaughtered as the onslaught continues? At what point do countries say,’No, we can’t take this massive crime against humanity? We can’t let it happen. We can’t let it continue to happen’.”

The US and many other Western countries have said they won’t be imposing a “no-fly zone” over Ukraine for fear of being drawn into a full scale war with Russia.

NATO has made it clear that it it will not be sending troops into Ukraine, thereby leaving the country to fend for itself while sanctions are imposed on Russia.

“The US should put the Chinese flag on F-22 fighter jets and bomb the s*&$ out of Russia. And then we say China did it. Then they start fighting with each other, and we sit back and watch.”

Trump criticised his successor, US President Joe Biden, for continually announcing what the US will not do, thus emboldening Russia.

“We have to have Biden stop saying that – and this is for everyone to hear – that we will not attack Russia ever because they are a nuclear power, right? You know who is saying this? Okay, whether it’s fact or fiction, ‘We will not attack Russia. You see, they are a nuclear power’. Oh, thanks for telling us.”

During his presidency, Trump mooted the prospect of the US pulling out of NATO because he felt the US was making the lion’s share of financial and military contributions to the international peace-keeping body.

“I said a long time ago, that NATO had problems: Number one, it was obsolete, because it was designed many, many, years ago,” said Trump during the early years of his presidency.

Last night, Trump upset China when he quipped: “The US should put the Chinese flag on F-22 fighter jets and bomb the s*&$ out of Russia. And then we say China did it. Then they start fighting with each other, and we sit back and watch.”
