Chinese tech giant Huawei posted positive sales of US$27.4 million for Q4 22, marking a 7.2 per cent growth compared to 2021.

Despite being locked out of the US market, Huawei’s  sales for the financial year came to $923 billion, a two per cent rise on the previous year’s figure.

Speaking on Huawei’s performance, Group CEO Eric Xu said: “In 2022, we successfully pulled ourselves out of crisis mode. US restrictions are now our new normal and we are back to business as usual. The macro-environment may be rife with uncertainty, but what we can be certain about is that digitalisation and decarbonisation are the way forward and there are where future opportunities lie.”

It’s three years since Google cut off its supply of services including apps and software, thus putting a huge dent in the company founded and led by Ren Zhenfei sales.

Huawei has managed to soldier on, relying on its own Harmony OS ecosystem.

The company has also expanded its cloud services business and is looking to new markets across the world including Latin America and the Caribbean.

Huawei is aware that 2023 is likely to be a tough year with high inflation, contracting economies and the war continuing in Ukraine.

“We face external volatility. We need to be proactive about improving the business environment and more effectively managing risks. This is the only way we can reach our business goals for 2023 and lay a solid foundation for Huawei’s continued survival and development,” continued Xu.

Huawei will relaunch 5G phones despite US sanctions. Going into battle mode, it has survived after seeing its global sales drop by 30 per cent in 2021.

It has successfully pivoted to its hardware business and diversified revenue streams.

In 2019, Huawei was the world’s top Android smartphone with the company posting revenues of US$122 billion that year.
