Humble Lion secured their first win of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season on Saturday (July 31), when they defeated Waterhouse 2-1 at the Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence at the University of the West Indies.

Midfielder Andrew Vanzie scored a brace in the 19th and 43rd minutes, after Colorado Murray had given Waterhouse a 17th minute lead.

In collecting their first points of the season, Humble Lion moved up one place in the points standing, as they now occupy 10th spot on three points, with Molynes United at the bottom on two.

Waterhouse remained sixth in the standing on six points. The league is being led by reigning champions Portmore United on 12 points followed by Vere United on 11, Harbour View and Mount Pleasant on eight and Cavalier on seven.

It was Humble Lion’s sixth match of the season and Waterhouse’s fifth.

Waterhouse took the lead when Murray headed home from a corner kick by Denardo Thomas and Humble Lion’s equaliser was also from a corner, which eventually fell fortuitously for Vanzie to ram home from distance.

Vanzie was then fouled inside the box and got up to convert the penalty and give Humble Lion the lead.

Murray missed an opportunity to pull Waterhouse level in the 78th minute. He lost his composure after a cross from the left picked him directly in front of goal, unmarked inside the just outside the six-yard box and fired wide of the target.
