Self-proclaimed King of the Dancehall Beenie Man faces backlash after his Drink Champs interview where he made mention of Trinidad and Tobago’s (T&T) street food ‘Doubles’, saying he doesn’t eat it since dogs don’t.
Beenie Man made the distasteful comment during an interview on the Drink Champs podcast with hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN which premiered on Saturday, February 1.
During the podcast, Beenie Man was asked to name the best island in the world, and he named his homeland, Jamaica.
When pressed to choose another, he once again said Jamaica but added, “I love Trinidad.” This led to a follow-up question about whether he enjoys Trinidad’s popular street food, doubles.
“I love Trinidad but I don’t eat doubles, because dogs don’t eat doubles and I don’t eat anything that dogs don’t eat. I don’t eat doubles,” Beenie Man said. “I was on the roadside and threw it to a stray dog and the dog didn’t eat it.”

“It (doubles) is nice but once I threw it to the dog and the dog didn’t eat it…dogs eat chicken, dogs eat fish, dogs eat dumplings…but the dog won’t eat the doubles,” Beenie Man said.
T&T natives have taken to social media to defend their food while taking the opportunity to troll the dancehall icon for his tone-deaf comments.
“Since Vybz Kartel came out of prison Beenie Man has been going out sad trying to seem more relevant. You can easily say you don’t like doubles without dissing smh,” one commenter on X wrote.
“I am not forgiving Beenie Man for his disrespectful statement about doubles,” another wrote. “If he ever comes here to do a concert, I will not be buying a ticket. That dog statement was so not necessary. He is an ass. I hope his hair continues to drop out even faster.”
“Beenie Man burning bridges and offending an entire Culture that has welcomed him with open arms, especially during Carnival,” another wrote.
“Beenie Man jus’ made himself public enemy number one in Trinbago… If it’s one thing, yuh don’t slander Doubles,” wrote another. “They’re cooking him.”
Recently, Beenie Man stirred controversy after igniting a one-sided feud with Vybz Kartel over the title of King of the Dancehall. This latest misstep has only fuelled the online debate—and not in his favour.
