Former President Donald Trump targeted pop superstar Taylor Swift in a heated Truth Social post on Sunday, September 15.

The post read: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” — a striking declaration of disdain following Swift’s endorsement of Trump’s opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris.

The backlash comes less than a week after Swift publicly announced her support for Harris in the upcoming presidential election. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Swift revealed her intention to vote for Harris and her vice presidential pick, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift wrote.

She lauded Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and expressed confidence in her ability to lead the country with a focus on “calm and not chaos.”

Swift’s endorsement followed the high-profile Presidential Debate on September 10 between Trump and Harris, in Philadelphia.

The debate covered a range of issues including abortion, immigration, the economy, and foreign policy. Swift’s decision to back Harris aligns with her advocacy for various progressive causes, which she highlighted in her post. She also expressed her support for Walz, commending his long-standing commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive freedom, and other social issues.

Taylor Swift signed off her recent Instagram post with “Childless Cat Lady,” a reference to a controversial 2021 comment by Senator JD Vance about women in politics. This followed former President Donald Trump sharing AI-generated images falsely suggesting Swift had endorsed him. Trump’s post, which included misleading claims about Swift’s fans and concert cancellations, prompted Swift to voice her concerns about AI and misinformation.

Trump’s reaction elucidates the increasingly contentious nature of this election cycle, where celebrity endorsements and public figures’ stances have become focal points of political discourse.

Swift’s vocal support for Harris is seen as a huge propellant for the Democratic nominee as the campaign intensifies.
