Since 2012, IDB Invest has issued 32 bonds valued at $9.3 billion raising funds in global capital markets that financed over 650 development projects

IDB Invest, rated Aa1/AA+/AAA (Moody’s/S&P/Fitch), celebrates its 10-year anniversary as a bond issuer during an event at the London Stock Exchange today, including participants such as Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, Bank of America, BNP Paribas, and Daiwa, among others.

Since its first bond issuance, IDB Invest has issued 32 bonds in seven currencies totaling $9.3 billion, with maturities ranging from two to 20 years. This includes over $500 million in bonds issued in local capital markets in Latin America and the Caribbean and $3.7 billion green, social and sustainability bonds.

“We are committed to walking the talk as a leading sustainable issuer,” said Orlando Ferreira, Chief Finance Officer of IDB Invest.

“Capital market development is key to economic growth for our borrowing member countries, and we aim to lead the way as an investor, advisor and issuer— with an added focus on sustainable bonds.”

Today, IDB Invest is an established multilateral issuer with a growing investor base and an annual issuance volume of $2.5 to $3 billion annually across multiple currencies and markets with a strong recognition as a leading sustainable issuer in the region. This represents significant growth since IDB Invest debuted as a bond issuer ten years ago with the issuance of a $350 million floating rate note in 2012.

During the last 10 years, IDB Invest has achieved many important milestones. It established a new Global Issuance Program in 2022 that replaced IDB Invest’s Euro MTN program. In 2021, IDB Invest launched its Sustainable Debt Framework with a $1-billion sustainability bond, the first gender bond of a supranational issuer in Mexican local capital markets and the region’s first blue bond. In 2018, it issued the first bond by a supranational institution in the local capital markets in Paraguay.

To date, funds raised have financed over 650 sustainable development projects with over $15.8 billion disbursed. These private sector projects promote the development of economically critical industries, such as infrastructure, agribusiness, manufacturing and more. Additionally, they foster job creation, green growth, diversity and inclusion, and/or strong governance standards in the region.
