The Arab country, which is Oman, has looked to be a friend and ally of the United States but if it is unwilling to help open the Strait of Hormuz, President Trump is threatening to blow the country up.
Oman has come under drone attack by Iran, which sees it as siding with the U.S. and Israel in the ongoing military conflict in the Middle East.
Asked by a reporter during a Cabinet meeting whether President Trump was OK with both Iran and Oman controlling the vital passageway, which is the Strait of Hormuz, the Commander-In-Chief fired back, “ The strait will be open to everybody. Nobody is going to control it. We will watch over it.
“Oman will behave just like everybody else, or we’ll have to blow them up. They understand that. They’ll be fine.”
President Trump has told Arab countries that he now expects them to get along and play nice with Israel and that they should comply with his envoys, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
As it currently stands, a deal is being brokered between Iran and the United States, which will see the vital waterway open up and for ships to pass through safely.
President Trump has said that if Iran does not agree to terms and continues to be difficult, the U.S. will return and finish them off. He went on to add that Iran poses no threat because its air force and navy are not wiped out by U.S. airstrikes.
Oman has made it clear it wants to be close to the U.S. and would like to be viewed as an ally. This threat from President Trump will cause some trepidation among Oman’s leadership.
Advocacy Director of DAWN, Raed Jarrer said: Threatening to “blow up” an Arab country because its waters happen to sit along an oil route Washington wants reopened is the same lawless logic that produced this war in February, and it is the clearest possible signal that any ceasefire this administration brokers will hold only until the next time the President loses his temper at a Cabinet meeting .”
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), nearly 34 per cent of global crude oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz last year.
