International Game Technology (“IGT”) Jamaica has announced its sponsorship of 50 students from its After School Advantage (ASA) programmes across the island to attend the Faculty of Science and Technology’s Science Festival.

Held at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, IGT Jamaica’s sponsorship of these students underscores its commitment to advancing equitable access to educational technology.

The Science Festival, a celebration of innovation and scientific achievement, offers hands-on experiences with cutting-edge technology, interactive exhibits, and insightful presentations from leading scientists. This initiative provides students from underprivileged communities with unmatched exposure to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) opportunities, which may influence their educational and career paths.

“This initiative aligns with IGT Jamaica’s broader corporate social responsibility strategy, which prioritizes sustainable development through education,” said Debbie Green, General Manager of IGT Jamaica. “In an era where technological proficiency increasingly determines economic participation, IGT’s commitment and strategic investment in equitable EdTech access empowers Jamaica’s underserved youth to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.”

IGT Jamaica’s sponsorship extends beyond transportation, lunch and entrance fees. By familiarising students with university settings and providing tools to continue their learning after the event, the Company is empowering the next generation of innovators, bridging the gap between academic exploration and real-world technological applications. This comprehensive approach reflects the company’s holistic vision for educational technology access—a vision that has seen IGT establish over 40 After School Advantage centres across the English-speaking Caribbean, equipped with state-of-the-art computers and educational software.

The company’s EdTech leadership has been transformative in Jamaica’s educational landscape, particularly in rural areas where digital resources are scarce. By strategically combining infrastructure development, curriculum support, and engaging in experiential learning opportunities such as the Science Festival at The UWI, Mona, IGT Jamaica has established a sustainable model for addressing the digital divide.
