During the launch of her new constituency office on Sunday, August 17, People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for St Andrew North Eastern, Stacy Knight, made it clear that she is stepping into the political arena on her own terms.
“I want people to understand that I am not my father,” Knight declared to a crowd of supporters. “I am not following in his shadow. I do what I want to do—and what I want right now is to become the Member of Parliament (MP) for St Andrew North-Eastern.”
Delroy Churck of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party currently represents the seat.
Knight, the daughter of a prominent Jamaican political figure KD Knight, is carving a distinct identity rooted in service, accessibility, and authenticity.
She emphasised that her political journey is marked by moments of doubt, but anchored by purpose and faith. “This journey to becoming member of parliament really has been rocky, rollercoaster-like, ups and downs, moments when I thought I wasn’t going to do it again. But I know that the Lord has a purpose for me,” Knight added.

Knight also committed to representing every resident regardless of party affiliation if elected to be their MP. “The first thing is that I’m going to be a member of parliament for every constituent. What I mean is, it’s not just the people uptown who have my phone number and can call me to fill potholes at their gates. The people in every ghetto… in every inner city community.
“I will not be your MP only for comrades,” she stated emphatically. “Every Labourite hearing my voice—know that I will be your MP too,” Knight continued.
Rejecting the transactional politics which, she says, has dominated the area, including the handing out of T-shirts, money, black ties, chickens, bun and bread—Knight made a bold appeal for citizens to vote not for handouts, but for hope.
“If you want to vote for real progress for schools that your children can go to… and if your child is the first in their family to qualify for university, you can get a full scholarship, that child will get a full scholarship… and if your child is not university minded, but perhaps is a DJ, or a painter, creative, a poet, an actor, if you want those talents to turn into earning power—vote for the People’s National Party,” she urged.
Knight also pledged transparency and participatory governance, especially in the use of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF)—a long-standing sore point for residents.
“I don’t know about you, but I have been living in this constituency for basically all my life… But in all these years of living here, I don’t remember ever hearing or knowing how the constituency development fund has been spent to develop anything in this constituency. Not only am I going to tell you how it is spent, but I’m going to consult you before I decide how to spend it. It’s going to be your projects, your ideas, it’s going to be what the people want, that’s how the money will be spent,” she added, while noting that residents should vote for accountability.
