Jamaican football star Leon Bailey has revealed his list of issues with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) in an interview on the Let’s Be Honest podcast, .
Bailey, 26, a member of the Aston Villa Football Club and the senior Reggae Boyz squad, lists his issues with the Jamaica Football Federation as unprofessionalism, poor accommodations, meagre pay, and overall lack of personal benefits, apart from representing his country.
“Jamaica national team is not doing anything for me enuh and the reason why mi say that – Jamaica nation team cannot give me exposure enuh bro,” Bailey said to host Jais Frais.
“Playing for [the] national team nah go make Real Madrid call me enuh. A me a shine light on the national team, basically enuh. Playing overseas and repping as a Jamaican all the time.”
“Whenever I’m there they don’t know how to operate…me is not like a normal player that is there, when we go places I feel exposed,” Bailey added.

Frias asked if Bailey has ever voiced these concerns, to which he replied that he has not, due to not wanting to come off as demanding. Frais agreed with Bailey saying he understood why he has not made an official complaint, “You don’t want to be a diva… the Beyoncé of the group.”
Bailey then quickly clarified his two main motivations for playing for the national team but asserted that his health, mental health would be jeopardised if he stayed with the JFF.
“What am I doing it for? You know why I do it? Because I am a Jamaican, mi love mi country and mi want to hopefully have a better environment for my kids, or the future generations and come up in a better environment.” he said, “But there’s only so much one person can endure.”
“I’m doing this for two reasons, to help the team make it to the World Cup and help the future generation,” Bailey said. “[But] I’m giving the national team a break.”
Frais voiced his concern that Jamaicans will be heartbroken when they hear that Leon Bailey will no longer play for the national team, but said he understood Bailey’s inclination to protect his peace.
The Reggae Boyz took a 3-1 loss at the semi-final Nations League match against the United States on Thursday, March 21.
