Medical diagnostic imaging company, Image Plus Consultants Limited (IPCL), which trades as Apex Radiology, is acquiring its competitor, Island Radiology.

Image Plus has reached an agreement with the shareholders of Island Radiology for it to acquire the business, which has been providing medical imaging services to Jamaicans since 2003.

Commenting on the impending acquisition, CEO of Image Plus, Kisha Anderson, says, “The Island Radiology purchase will cement IPCL’s position as the leading provider of diagnostic imaging in Jamaica, both by the number of modalities and service locations. By making this strategic move, the company is well-positioned for sustained growth in the years ahead, and the IPCL team is focused on working to ensure that profit and operational gains redound to the benefit of our stakeholders.”

Q1 of FY2027 expected completion

The proposed acquisition is subject to the successful execution of a definitive sale and purchase agreement, and Image Plus is seeking to conclude the transaction in the first quarter of FY 2027. Operational developments will be communicated directly to patients and referring physicians, and upon closing of the transaction, further general information will be shared through market disclosures.

With branches in Mandeville and Ocho Rios and an agency in Santa Cruz, the Island Radiology team has built a formidable brand as a trusted provider of diagnostic imaging services. Their offerings include multiple modalities – Ultrasound, X-Rays, Fluoroscopy, CT, Interventional Studies, Mammography, Bone Densitometry and MRI.

In Central Jamaica, Island Radiology is the sole private provider of MRI and bone densitometry studies.

In welcoming the expanded cadre of professionals under the Apex brand, company Chairman, Dr Steven Lewis, commented, “This second acquisition is well aligned with IPCL’s inorganic growth priorities. In expanding our footprint, we are thankful and humbled that another subset of our peers has entrusted us with their 23-year brand, allowing us to bring our expertise and IPCL service delivery model to a new market in central Jamaica.”

Last July 2025, Image Plus announced its planned acquisition of The Woman’s Place, a Jamaican medical imaging firm specialising in mammography. The deal, which enhances Image Plus’ market dominance, involves Dr Verna Reid, founder of The Woman’s Place, joining the IPCL team.

This acquisition is part of a broader expansion strategy for Image Plus to improve core efficiency and increase volume in specialised services such as mammography. The acquisition, finalised in November 2025, involved a payment structure of 75% cash with 25% deferred.
