Portuguese football icon, Cristiano Ronaldo scored two late goals today (June 15), powering Portugal to a 3-0 win over hosts Hungary in its opening game of Euro 2020 at the Ferenc Puskás Stadium.
As tenacious as ever, Hungary tried to withstand the pressure, but the reigning champions made a late charge with midfielder, Raphaël Guerreiro opening the scoring in the 84th minute, thanks to a deflected shot.
The arguable football ‘G.O.A.T’ then doubled Portugal’s advantage three minutes later, before completing the scoring in injury time.
The Juventus forward’s first goal of the night was his 10th in European championship history, making him the tournament’s all-time top goal scorer.
The record had previously been held by France midfielder Michel Platini, who hit nine goals in just five games at Euro 1984 to guide his country to the title.
Ronaldo’s brace against Hungary also saw him become the first player in history to have scored at five separate European championships.
Way to go, Ronaldo!
