Inaugural Frontier Airlines direct flight from Atlanta touches down in Jamaica

Frontier commenced another route to island yesterday

United States-based carrier, Frontier Airlines inaugural flight into Jamaica from Atlanta touched down in Montego Bay, St James on Monday, with much fanfare.

The flight from Atlanta, Georgia was welcomed at the Sangster International Airport. Frontier’s Airbus A320 with 49 passengers on board landed at 8:39 a.m., including crew members, in a direct two-and-a-half-hour flight.

Yesterday Frontier commenced another route to Jamaica. Therefore, during the pandemic, the American carrier would have seen three newer services to Jamaica, indicative of the airline’s confidence in the Jamaican market.

Sharon Hislop-Holt, manager of commercial development and marketing at MBJ Limited, operators of Sangster International Airport, was on hand to welcome Frontier’s inaugural Atlanta flight to Jamaica. She told journalists covering the event that Frontier Airlines had now joined Delta as the only direct flights from Atlanta to Montego Bay.

Said Hislop-Holt: “This is great for passengers. Competition is what drives the business, and so it is all about getting the best value for money for persons coming to Montego Bay and Jamaica as well as for travelling in general.”

She highlighted that MBJ has been working with the new and existing airlines for several years, noting that towards the response of Frontier Airlines over the call amid the COVID-19 pandemic for working on the new flight routes and services.

According to her, “We (MBJ) are very happy that Frontier commenced a new service in the pandemic, just when we reopened earlier this year with a Miami route. So, we were very happy for that, and then we continued negotiations with them until they decided to start the Atlanta route.”

One of the passengers on the inaugural flight, Jamaica-born Ms Miller, posited that Frontier Airlines offers one of the more affordable trips to Jamaica, pointing out that the journey was smooth and “a really good experience”.
