Member of Parliament for Portland Eastern, Ann-Marie Vaz said that she is beyond frustrated that residents of Fairy Hill and surrounding communities still do not have piped water and are suffering from bad road and dust conditions.

The MP is once again making the request after protest erupted in the community because of the infrastructure issues.

“It is most disappointing that little attention has been given to this matter by the parties that can assist in a resolve. I am loudening my call for The National Water Commission (NWC) to not just take note of this issue but to advise citizens on the state of the water supply and to provide sustained trucking of water during drought,” said Vaz in a release.

The dust problem is said to have been caused due to a sustained and unprecedent drought.

She also implored the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Jamaica to put measures in place to increase water trucking by minimum of two to wet the roads and alleviate the dust.

“To be quite frank, it is beyond disappointing and quite alarming that while there are contracts valued in excess of a billion dollars, road maintenance is at a standstill and residents are still being subjected to these unfavourable road conditions, especially motorists and other route travellers,” mused Vaz.

Vaz further noted that this issue is affecting many schools, hospitals, businesses places, the tourism sector and essential services.
