Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Tuesday (November 2) announced that the Government of Jamaica will be receiving US$1 million from the Government of India, in an effort to boost the Caribbean island’s climate change resilience efforts.

This announcement was made during the high level launch of the Infrastructure for Resilient Island States, which took place during the United Nations International Climate Conference in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Holness noted that small island developing states (SIDS) are at the frontline of the current climate crisis and welcomed the infrastructure which he said would play an important role for them.

In a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, Holness expressed his gratitude to India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, for supporting Jamaica.

Holness also announced that Jamaica will be the first country in the world to develop a predictive climate risk assessment planning tool for major infrastructure investments.

This project is a part of the country’s national strategy which includes development partners and the private sector.
