Information Minister Dana Morris Dixon has moved to dispel reports that the National Violence Prevention Commission (NCVP) has submitted its report to Cabinet.

The NCVP is drafting a report detailing recommendations for legislative changes and institutional building that is geared towards reducing violence in society.

“In terms of the Violence Prevention Commission, that work is not completed as yet. The chair is Professor Samms-Vaughan and she is an expert, especially in child development and in these types of areas. That committee has been working for some time, and they are putting together their recommendations, so we expect that within months, hopefully it will be a bit shorter than that. Their final report will be published, and once it is published, it will be disseminated to everyone,” said Morris Dixon.

The information minister assured that the report will be widely circulated to members of the public once submitted, followed by its implementation.

The NCVP is mandated to conduct a continuing, comprehensive review of all existing public and private violence-prevention programmes as well as the strategies of the government.

Its purpose is to identify gaps in the prevention and intervention services and to make recommendations with respect to violence prevention and intervention programmes.
