Is Andrew Tate a new, more misogynistic Kevin Samuels?

It has been just under three months since the death of Youtube phenomenon Kevin Samuels, and already the world of social media has found a new hero, or villain, depending on who is listening.

The new online sensation gaslighting the world is Emory Andrew Tate III, a 35-year-old British-American boxer and social media personality whose voice and visage have been either upsetting or inspiring men and women who in recent weeks have been bombarded with his ‘life lessons’ on relationships, personal development and success.

Like Samuels, Tate has become one of the leading voices in the ‘manosphere’, which has been defined by many as a collection of websites, blogs, and online forums promoting masculinity, misogyny, and opposition to feminism.

Samuels, who promoted ideas around what it means to be a ‘high value man’ and whether women past a certain age, weight or personality type were being practical in their desires to obtain one, drew the ire of many on social and even had individuals publicly celebrating his death last May.

Incidentally, it was reported this past Monday (July 18) that Samuels’ death was due to hypertension, also known as high blood pressure – a condition afflicting a high percentage of black men who fail to learn their status or neglect to follow the proper regimes to control the condition.

With Samuels now gone, Tate has taken up the mantle of promoting the ‘assertive male’ through a different style of delivery, though just as caustic in tone.

The multimillionaire cryptocurrency investor and casino chain owner also offers training courses on getting rich and “male-female interactions” on his website.

But while Samuels by most accounts was a decent man behind all the bravado required for his success on social media, Tate’s role in molding minds – particularly through viral video shorts on TikTok and Instagram Reels – raises far more questions due to some truly abhorrent comments and behaviour that can be found in researching his history.

The biggest question of all is whether this is truly the voice that should epitomise the evolution in motivating men to greatness.

Here are a few of Tate’s memorable, but less toxic, quotes:

“A man does not acquire a full skillset to be told, ‘Take Care’ or ‘Be careful’ by amateurs.”

“A man must physically protect his woman. But a woman must spiritually protect her man. She must bring positivity and joy.”

1- “Aspire to be a superhero. Not a normal person with a bigger house and nicer car. You can have $10 million right now but if your wife is average, no powerful brothers to call on and you’re physically weak, you’re just a rich loser, instead of a poor one. Money is not the goal, power is.”

2- “Chess is life. The King’s limited movement in Chess represents limitations in life as a man. A Queen has unlimited movement because of her beauty. Party on a yacht? You gotta earn it. One square at a time. A Queen just jumps on the board.”

3- “Cowardice is bred into poor people. It ensures poverty by dulling their appetite for risk.”

4- “Find a person who is as successful as you’d like to be, ask them what to do, do it and work hard.”

5- “High standards protect you from low-quality experiences.”

6- “I got rich on purpose. I got strong on purpose. I became a champion on purpose. Absolutely nothing was an accident. You’re hoping and waiting. That’s a dream. I had a plan. Not dreams.”

7- “Be careful when you follow the masses, sometimes the ‘M’ is silent.

8- “A boy becomes a man when he starts prioritising respect over love.”

9- “The only way a man can win a fight with a woman is to ignore her.”

10- “If your girl can’t cook and you go with another woman that can cook, that’s not cheating. That’s survival.

11- “A man does not acquire a full skillset to be told, ‘Take Care’ or ‘Be careful’ by amateurs.”

12- “A man must physically protect his woman. But a woman must spiritually protect her man. She must bring positivity and joy.”
