Island Child Style makes ‘grand’ return with runway-style media launch

Island Child Style, the Caribbean’s first runway show featuring children’s collections, made its grand return with a runway-style media launch at the AC Hotel in St Andrew on Monday evening (November 7).

The mini spectacle gave a sneak peak into a few collections that will grace the runway show on December
3, 2022 at the Port Royal Cruise Pier.

The launch kicked off with the evening’s host, Kerie-Ann ‘Kiki’ Thombs, who introduced the speakers and had guests constantly in stitches with her witty commentary.

“At the core of what we do with Island Child Style is, we really want to change our nation. We believe at our core that if we fix our families, we will fix our children and we will fix our nation and we are starting with the very simple context of empowering our kids to believe in themselves, empowering our children to be confident and one of the ways that we do that is this incredible global staging of a runway event,”
said Gordon.

She ended her remarks expressing heartfelt thanks to the sponsors who are a part of the project.

“For every sponsor who is contributing to help make this event come to life, you are investing not just for ROI, you are investing in the lives of Jamaica’s tomorrow and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” she said.

“Our mission to change every child, we believe that the most beautiful child is a confident child and we thank you for being a part of this whole runway event.”

Guests looked on in awe at the unique 2022 collections from well-known local and regional designers, including Shenna Carby, Kadian Nicely, Anthony Reid for Meiling, Zuri Isabelle and many others.

The presentation was well received with nods of approval, cheering and applauses from guests who were pleased with the designs.

The bold children, ages 4-17 and sporting age-appropriate fits, walked the runway, oozing confidence and poise.

The show opened with Leah Millwood rocking a distressed loc hairstyle from the Bold Collection that sheds light on hair acceptance and the different types of hair and styles in the Caribbean.

Seven-year-old Jamaican designer Logan Watkins’ Lotus Collection took the runway by storm, followed by the Club Couture collection, which was modeled by four-year-old Izabel Misir, who had guests cheering at her sassy attitude and palpable confidence on the runway.

The show concluded with the final dress from Kadian Nicely’s collection, a show-stopping lavender tulle high-low dress modeled by Emily Black, who is 17.
