Colombian musician J. Balvin has issued an apology for his Perra music video that was removed a week after its release on YouTube.

Dropped in September, the music video featured Balvin walking with two black women on leashes while a number of other black actors in the music video were dressed to resemble dogs.

Tokischa, the Dominican rapper featured on the track, is also seen on all fours in a dog house.

The Dominican rapper, in an interview with Rolling Stone, said the video was “conceptual” and was meant to emphasise the wordplay in the track.

Balvin said he removed the video out of respect and issued the apology due to the criticism he was receiving.

Apologising on Sunday, the singer made a number of Instagram posts sharing how sorry he was, especially to the Black community.

“I want to say sorry to whomever felt offended, especially to the Black women community,” Balvin wrote.

He continued: “That’s not who I am. I have always expressed tolerance, love and inclusivity. I also like to support new artistes, in this case Tokischa – a woman who supports her people, her community and also empowers women.”
