The spirit of friendly competition was alive and well at Murray’s Fish & Jerk Hut in Clarendon on Saturday, September 20, as J Wray & Nephew Limited (JWN) brought together its workforce and families for an unforgettable Family Fun Day.

As part of the company’s staff engagement for its 200th anniversary celebrations, employees traded their work attire for team colours, dividing into four spirited houses—Milan (Red), Tulloch (Yellow), Wray (Green), and Spence (Blue)—ready to battle for bragging rights and a special family cash prize of $200,000.

After a day of high energy and close contests, it was Wray House who dominated the scoreboard and claimed the title of overall champions.

JWN Sales Executive Rochelle Palmer and her family walked away with the special prize of $200,000 for earning the most points across the day’s events, adding excitement to the already memorable day. Palmer, on behalf of her family, expressed her gratitude for the prize.

According to her, “This is such a blessing for my family. We’ll be putting the prize money towards planning my daughter’s sweet sixteen, which makes this win even more special.”

It was a family affair for JWN employee Rohan Chambers and his wife Chevelle, son and daughter Zuri and Zidani when they came decked out in Green to support their House “Wray” for the sports Day and Family Fun Day.

Managing Director Daniel Caron commended the spirit of the day and its connection to the company’s bicentenary, sharing that this is only a taste of what can be expected from the 200th anniversary celebration. “It’s wonderful to see so many of our employees and their families come together as we continue our 200-year celebration. Today is about camaraderie, competition, and fun, but it’s also about acknowledging the impact J Wray & Nephew has had over generations. Our employees and their families are at the heart of this legacy, and it is this energy and dedication that make our 200 years so meaningful,” he ended.

JWN’s Senior HR Director Keisha Palmer emphasised the importance of the event to the company’s culture. “Our Family Fun Day goes beyond friendly competition. It’s about building bonds, creating memories, and reminding our teams that they are at the core of JWN’s legacy. This year’s bicentenary celebrations are as much about our people as they are about our brands.”

Manufacturing Director Sanjay Bowla and his son Jacob made it a father-son outing for the Sports Day activities hosted by JWN at Murray’s in celebration of the company’s 200th anniversary.

The Family Fun Day forms part of J Wray & Nephew’s year-long bicentenary programme of celebrations, which includes heritage initiatives, philanthropic investments through the JWN Foundation, and activations highlighting the brand’s longstanding support of Jamaica’s sports, music, and culture.
