The Bustamante Hospital for Children (Ophthalmology Unit) received J$17 million from the net proceeds of the CeCe Winans ‘More Than This’ concert, which has funded the purchase of a Phacoemulsification Machine for cataract surgeries.
Dr Kristin Cowan-Lyn, consultant ophthalmologist at the Bustamante Hospital for Children, expressed gratitude and outlined that the net proceeds support national development and uplift Jamaica’s most vulnerable communities.
“It is an honour to stand here on behalf of the ophthalmology department of Bustamante Hospital for Children as we celebrate the extraordinary act of generosity made possible through the Cece Winans More Than This concert.”

Lyn emphasised that the handover represents more than just a donation of a medical device. “It represents hope, possibility, and a tangible investment in the future of Jamaica’s children. We are truly grateful for this donation. This machine is essential for timely cataract surgery in children, which prevents avoidable and often permanent blindness,” she said, at the official handover ceremony of the net proceeds from Cece Winans ‘More Than This’ concert on Wednesday, November 26.
Lyn further emphasised that because a child’s brain is still learning to see, early intervention is critical, as this is important for the proper visual development of the child throughout their life. “This equipment will allow us to preserve the sight of children who will see and transform their futures. We have received this instrument, which is a cornerstone piece of equipment for modern, pediatric cataract surgery.
“And for many of our young patients, this type of surgery will mean the difference between a lifetime of visual impairment and an opportunity to experience the world with clarity and functionality. It means engaging fully with their families and communities. It means having a chance at a bright and productive future,” Lyn continued.
She further expressed appreciation to gospel artiste Cece Winans, her team, the organisers, the Come Alive Collective, the corporate partners and downers, and every single person who attended and contributed to making the concerts a success.
“Your compassion and belief in the mission will have a real and life-changing impact. Today, it’s a reminder that community, faith, and service, when they come together, miracles can happen. And on behalf of the children and the families whose lives will be transformed through this gift, we say a heartfelt thank you. And your generosity will echo for years to come in every child whose vision is restored,” Lyn added.
Other beneficiaries of the concert’s proceeds are the Governor-General’s Programme for Excellence, which received J$3 million; Students Christian Fellowship and Scripture Union (SCFSU), which received J$3 million; Open Door Jamaica Foundation, which received J$2 million; and Yadel Home for Children, which also received J$2 million.
A special presentation of J$1 million was also made to Food For The Poor Jamaica (FFTP). This additional allotment was approved in direct response to the urgent humanitarian needs following Hurricane Melissa, ensuring the concert’s impact extends to families and communities currently rebuilding.
