Tia Clayton who pulled up injured at the Jamaican National Championship, has been included in Jamaica’s team for the NACAC Senior Track and Field Championships from August 15 – 17 in Freeport, Bahamas.

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) named a 48-member team. Based on the persons named to the relay pool and not the individual events, there is an emphasis on qualification for the women’s 4x400m and Mixed Relay 4x400m teams.

Clayton will be celebrating her 21st birthday during the championships on August 17, and her selection was surprising because of her pulling up at the trials in Kingston, which sparked concerns of a serious injury.

With the NACAC champions qualifying for the World Championship, eyes will be on Clayton as she hopes to join her sister Tina Clayton, Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in the 100m.

Tia Clayton is the sixth-ranked runner in the world in the 100m with a time of 10.86, and she will be accompanied by Jodean Williams in the 100m at NACAC.

Meanwhile, the women’s 4×400 relay team, chasing to better 3:24.92 to solidify their top 16 ranking for the World Championship, will be at full strength with the likes of national champion Nickeisha Pryce, Stacey-Ann Williams, Dejanae Oakley, Leah Anderson, Shaquena Foote and Roneisha McGregor.

National 400m champion Rusheen McDonald, Delano Kennedy, Zandrion Barnes, Christopher Taylor, Deandre Watkins, Shamar Uter and Bovel McPherson are all there and will strengthen the 4×400 relay. McDonald and Kennedy will be chasing the qualifying mark of 44.85.
