Jamaican sprint champion Shericka Jackson is among five finalists for the 2023 World Athletics’ World Athlete of the Year Award.
Jackson’s achievements in track and field, most notably for securing the World 200m Championship and claiming victory in the Diamond League 100m and 200m events, as well as securing silver in the World 100m Championship, have propelled her onto the list of finalists.
Eleven women were nominated for the prestigious award that recognises the sensational performances of athletes across a range of disciplines in 2023, such as winning titles and breaking world records at the World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023, One-day meeting circuits, Label road races, and other events around the world.
The other four athletes who made the finals include: Yulimar Rojas, the triple jump World Champion from Venezuela; Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon, the World1500m and 5000m Champion; Femke Bol, the World 400m hurdles champion from The Netherlands; and Ethiopian Tigist Assefa, the World marathon record holder.
The World Athletes of the Year will be announced on World Athletics’ platforms on December 11.
