Treasure Beach’s famous rustic hotel, Jakes, which is run by Jason Henzell, is featured in an article by Alison Humes in today’s Wall Street Journal.
Jakes has long been a charming alternative to the all-inclusive concept that dominates Jamaican tourism, with the emphasis placed on community and nature, highlighting the beauty of the island and leading with natural elements.
The article tells of how Jakes was started by Jason’s mother, Sally Henzell, back in the 90s and named after the family’s parrot. She kicked things off with a thatched bar and a few cabins. Years later, Jason took it to another level, adding the famous ‘Jack Sprat’ restaurant and upping the ante on the villas.
Jakes really does showcase the charms of Jamaica and if you are inclined to just chill and be one with Mother Nature then it is the spot.
