Jamaica’s under-15 Reggae Boyz were crowned CONCACAF B League champions after dispatching Puerto Rico 2-0 at the Stadion CD Guillermo Trinidad in Oranjestad, Aruba, last Saturday (August 9).
Jamaica, which finished the tournament unbeaten, got their goals from Tevin Savage of Jamaica College in the second minute and Kelvin Brown of Kingston College in time added on in the 70+1 minute.
The powerful Brown, who was man of the match, ended as the team’s top scorer with five goals from five games. Carlondo Morris had four goals as Jamaica banged in 15 goals while conceding twice.
Brown, who will be remembered when he scored on his under-19 KC Manning Cup debut as a 12-year-old against Camperdown a few seasons ago, was a constant menace for Puerto Rico from the opening whistle.
He latched onto a long ball, held off his defender well before teeing up Savage who side-footed home from just inside the box.
Jamaican goalkeeper Jaheime Gray had nothing much to do, but when called upon, he produced a spectacular diving full stretch to turn away a brilliant free kick from Luis Rodriguez free kick that was curling into the net.
Brown then put the icing on the cake, nodding home from close range Kyle Hussey’s cross for a well-deserved victory.
The young Reggae Boyz breezed through the tournament, beating Belize 2-0, Aruba 4-0, and Curacao 1-0 in the group stage. They then destroyed Trinidad and Tobago 6-2 in the semi-final before dispatching Puerto Rico 2-0.
