The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) says it is deeply saddened and alarmed by the recent act of violence targeting on a director of the Integrity Commission. 

In a statement on Thursday (September 21), the entity extended “our thoughts with the injured director, colleagues and his family and we wish a full and speedy recovery”.

“We vehemently condemn this heinous act and express our utmost concern for the safety and security of all individuals who are dedicated to upholding the principles of transparency and accountability within our nation,” the JCC added.

Continuing, the JCC noted that the Integrity Commission plays a pivotal role in ensuring the ethical conduct of public officials and the protection of our democracy.

“An attack on one of its directors is an attack on the very foundations of our society. We stand in solidarity with the commission and its dedicated staff during this difficult time,” said the JCC.

“The JCC urgently calls upon the Jamaican government and our security forces to spare no resources in their efforts to swiftly apprehend and bring the perpetrators of this appalling crime to justice. Such acts of violence cannot go unpunished, and we must send a clear message that attacks on those who work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law will not be tolerated,” it contended.

According to the JCC, it is essential that the country maintains the safety and security of our institutions and those who serve them. The entity further called on all Jamaicans to join us in denouncing violence and to work together to ensure that our country remains a place where integrity and the pursuit of justice are valued above all else.

“Vibrant debate and public discourse on the roles and responsibilities of government bodies in our efforts to achieve a better society cannot be allowed to descend into violence. We reaffirm our commitment to a Jamaica where the rule of law prevails, and justice is accessible to all,” wrote the JCC.
