Jamaica Consulate in Haiti suspends its services after property was set ablaze

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith says consular services in Haiti has been suspended indefinitely following an attack on the Sun Auto Car Dealership in Port-au-Prince which also house Jamaica’s Consulate Office.

“I am confirming that we are aware that the Sun Auto Car Dealership in Port-au-Prince was last night (June 12) set ablaze and ransacked by criminal gangs. The Consulate of Jamaica was located on the premises and we have therefore expressed our sympathies to the owners of the dealership, to our honorary consul and ofcourse advice the public hereby that consular services in Haiti are therefore suspended indefinately,” she said in a statement Today (June 13).

Minister Johnson Smith said that her Ministry is now awaiting further details on the matter.

She further reaffirmed that the Government of Jamaica will continue to support all efforts help Haiti return to peace and proseperity.
