The Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) is cautioning Jamaicans against engaging individuals who claim that they can facilitate the purchase of motor vehicles from the quarterly auctions prior to the dates of the event.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 30, the JCA advised that “under no circumstances should members of the public engage these individuals or make any payments to them”.

A motor vehicle auction is a method of selling motor vehicles to buyers who are willing to pay the highest price for the vehicle.

The JCA also sought to remind members of the public that vehicles included in the customs auction can only be purchased on the dates that the auctions are held.

It further noted that persons participating in the auction must be registered by the agency at the Queen’s Warehouse located at 230 Spanish Town Road, the Norman Manley International Airport and the Sangster International Airport.

The requirements for auction registration at the JCA include a valid photo identification, a passport-size photo (no more than six months ago), tax registration number and the payment of an annual fee of J$2000.
