Jamaica became the 13th CARICOM member state to accede to the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) Establishment Agreement, strengthening the growing bridge between Africa and the Caribbean.

On the sidelines of the 50th CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in St Kitts and Nevis, an Afreximbank delegation led by President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr George Elombi and Vice President of the African Export-Import Bank, Kanayo Awani, met with Prime Minister Andrew Holness to advance collaboration.

Prime Minister Holness expressed appreciation for Afreximbank’s support following the hurricane that impacted Jamaica on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, which helped restore critical services, including water, electricity, sewage and road infrastructure, while supporting reconstruction efforts to build greater resilience.

Discussions also focused on rebuilding key infrastructure such as railways, hospitals and public facilities and strengthening regional connectivity to facilitate the movement of people and goods and expand trade across CARICOM.

Through Jamaica’s membership and continued collaboration, Afreximbank is deepening Africa-Caribbean cooperation and unlocking new opportunities across Global Africa.
