Recognising and celebrating the heroic, valiant efforts of Jamaicans across the island has been a consistent commitment of the GraceKennedy family since its inception.
When the GraceKennedy team was approached about hosting a celebratory luncheon for the Spanish Town Fire Brigade, it was a no-brainer. The brave team of firefighters executed the rescue of 66-year-old George Smart from a 55-foot pit in Spanish Town, St. Catherine in May of this year.
“It was a great opportunity for GraceKennedy, being a homegrown Jamaican company, to celebrate and award our local heroes. Especially during the pandemic we’ve seen so many heroes who stand out [and] GraceKennedy is and always has been very keen on showing its appreciation to fellow Jamaicans,” Grace Kitchens Executive Chef Sheat Stewart said.

The GraceKennedy team honoured our hometown heroes with a specially catered lunch at the Spanish Town Fire Station.
Chef Shea was on site to serve a delicious meal to convey their sincere gratitude for the excellent work continually done by the Jamaica Fire Brigade in serving and protecting our nation.

After speaking with Dennis Lyons, Acting Divisional Commander for St Catherine at the time of the rescue, the hope is that this luncheon is the beginning of a long term partnership between the Fire Brigade and GraceKennedy.
There are multiple opportunities for collaboration between the two entities in the future, and creating a sustainable relationship moving forward is sure to have a lasting impact on the Fire Brigade and all those they assist.
