There is good news for Jamaica as Canada has upgraded its travel advisory on the destination.
The island is now back at ‘yellow’ status with the Canadian government, marking a return to pre-Hurricane Melissa status and conditions. This change signals the Canadian Government’s confidence in Jamaica’s recovery and readiness to welcome Canadian travellers to its sunny and sandy shores.
The update, which was posted earlier this week, signalled Ottawa’s confidence in the island as a major travel destination following the passage of Hurricane Melissa on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, which struck the island on October 28, 2025, leaving a trail of destruction and mayhem, particularly on the tourism sector. However, this upgrade reflects the work already completed on the ground since the Category 5 storm.
Since then, hotels and resorts across Jamaica have been restoring services to ensure the destination is fully operational for winter travellers. For the Canadian travel industry, the move removes a key barrier just as peak winter demand hits its stride, as Jamaica remains one of Canada’s most consistently booked warm-weather destinations.
For the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), “travel operators and agents can reengage potential customers with a strong value proposition for this destination,” noting that local hotels, resorts, and local operators have been hard at work restoring services and enhancing visitor experiences, ensuring the destination is fully equipped to meet demand.
“This is a pivotal moment for Jamaica’s tourism recovery. The updated travel advisory underscores the island’s resilience and the hard work of our industry partners to ensure travellers can visit with confidence,” declares JTB’s Regional Director for Canada, Angella Bennett. She adds, “Canadians have always been some of our most enthusiastic visitors, and now is the perfect time to welcome Canadians back to the island.”
