The late James Moss-Solomon has been lauded by the Jamaica Golf Association for having been a key player in the development of the sport in the country.

The businessman and past president of the JGA passed away on Tuesday (January 4) at the age of 70.

According to a statement released by the JGA, his contributions to the sport will be missed.

“The Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr James Moss-Solomon, who passed away early (Tuesday) morning. Mr Moss-Solomon was a past president of the JGA and was integral to the development of the first Junior Golf Programme that was started in the 1980s,” the statement read.

“He believed in the concept of a regional governing body for golf and together with Barbados, Puerto Rico and Trinidad, was a founding member of the Caribbean Golf Association in the capacity of vice president. The Caribbean Golf Association established a trophy in his name for the Boys 18 & Under, dubbed the James Moss-Solomon Trophy.  The most recent Jamaican to win it was Justin Burrowes. Over the years Moss-Solomon remained a friend of local and Caribbean golf,” the JGA added.

The governing body of golf in Jamaica further noted that “based on his significant contribution to golf in Jamaica and the region, and the Jamaican economy as a business executive, his presence and influence will be sorely missed.”

Moss-Solomon, who underwent hip surgery in late December 2021, is survived by his wife Rachael, children Jeffrey, Sarah, Damon and Joseph as well as siblings Peter and Joan.
