Jamaica remains one of the weakest passports among Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states and is now third from the bottom, ahead of Suriname and conflict-torn Haiti.
The 2025 Henley Passport Index, released on Tuesday (July 22), ranked Jamaica in joint 56th place with Oman as both countries are afforded visa-free access to 88 countries globally.
It represents a slight downgrade compared to Jamaica’s 55th ranking last July, when, alongside Guyana, its citizens were guaranteed visa-free travel to 89 countries.
Barbados, steady at 20th for a third consecutive year, remains CARICOM’s most powerful passport, boasting access to 163 countries.
The annual ranking, curated by British investment migration consultancy Henley & Partners, includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations based on data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA).
Singapore retains the number one mobility ranking as the world’s most powerful passport for a second-straight year, with visa-free access to 194 countries.
Japan and South Korea (second place, access to 190 countries), and 17 other countries across Europe and Asia, round out the joint top five.
On the other end of the spectrum, North African state Somalia, and Arab countries Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan remain affixed at the bottom of the Henley & Partners’ ranking with the five weakest passports in the world.
