Jamaica has become the latest country to join the Hague System, which affords international protection over intellectual property rights.

Jamaica’s admission to the Hague System brings the total number of countries covered to 93, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has officially announced.

As a result, as of February 10, 2022, companies and individuals in Jamaica will be able to seek international protection of their designs in the countries covered by the Hague System, which is governed by WIPO.

Non-residents seeking design protection in Jamaica will be able to designate the Hague System’s newest member in their international applications.

The Hague System is a fast track route to securing international protection of designs in multiple jurisdictions. Applicants enjoy a minimum of formalities, a maximum of time savings and substantial cost-efficiency.

By joining the Hague System, there is no need to file individual national applications; no complications with national languages and different currencies; no monitoring of multiple deadlines for renewal.

Applicants simply manage registrations centrally through WIPO.
