As the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season approaches its end, Jamaica could find itself in the direct crosshairs of a massive disturbance whose development chances continue to improve in the southwest Caribbean Sea.

According to preliminary forecasts from the US-based National Hurricane Center (NHC), the disturbance may become a low-pressure system in the next few days. Owing to favourable oceanic conditions, it should further strengthen into a tropical depression later this week.

The disturbance will then drift northeastward across the western and central portions of the Caribbean Sea.

Formation chances are currently “meduim” at 50 per cent over the next seven days.
