Visitors must schedule their test through a dedicated online laboratory portal

In a bid to woo more Canadian tourists to the island, Jamaican officials have partnered with two private local laboratories to offer Canadian residents returning home access to in-hotel PCR tests priced at US$75 each.

This is a reduction of more than 50 per cent off the previous PCR testing price. Effective yesterday, Canadian tourists can book their required pre-departure COVID-19 molecular test directly for US$75 (inclusive of taxes).

Jamaican officials have advised that these visitors must schedule their test through a dedicated online laboratory portal in order to qualify for the rate. Travel advisors will also be able to book PCR testing on behalf of their clients in advance, thereby adding value to the service they offer.

Explaining how the system will work

Tourists staying at a licensed hotel in Jamaica’s Resilient Corridors can schedule a PCR test to be conducted on property via a concierge service. Visitors staying in a private villa, guest house, or residence can book an in-person appointment at the closest laboratory location.

The PCR tests for Canadians travelling to Jamaica can be booked at either of the following locations:

1.    Baywest Wellness Clinic

2.    Technological Solutions Limited

The online platforms contain all the necessary information required to re-enter Canada, including travel dates and the location of the test. Payment will be processed online at the time of booking via credit card. Test results will be emailed directly to clients 24- to 48-hours following the sample collection.

Discounted PCR testing is a game changer

Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett has declared that “Jamaica’s new in-hotel PCR testing and reduced pricing will be a game-changer for Canadian travellers visiting the destination”.

Jamaica’s Director of Tourism Donovan White said the convenience and price of the new testing offer is getting rave reviews from partners.

“All of our partners in Jamaica and Canada are very appreciative that visitors in the destination will now have access to sophisticated PCR testing in the comfort of their hotel at a heavily discounted rate,” White added.

For her part, recently appointed Angella Bennett, regional director for Canada at the Jamaica Tourist Board, said this development is great news for Canadians and the advisors who help plan their trips.

According to her, “the JTB has been working very hard to collaborate with the country’s accredited laboratories to facilitate more accessible and affordable testing for our Canadian visitors”.

She added: “We are very excited to bring this long-awaited enhanced service to the market and make travelling to Jamaica even more seamless for Canadians this winter.”
