Jamaica has surpassed 600 murders for the year, even as national crime data reflects a significant drop in homicides compared to 2025.
The latest figures from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) show that, as of November 22, the country recorded 604 murders.
This represents a notable decrease of 437 killings, down from 1,041 homicides during the same period last year—a 42 per cent reduction.
Despite the overall improvement, violence continues to plague several parishes. Thirteen murders were reported just last week, underscoring the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement.
The St Andrew South Police Division leads the country in murders, logging 70 homicides so far this year. It is followed closely by St Catherine North with 57, St Ann with 54, St James with 49, and St Catherine South with 48. These five divisions together account for a significant portion of the nation’s murders.
Authorities remain cautiously optimistic, noting the substantial decline in violent killings, but acknowledge that sustained efforts are needed to combat crime in the island’s most affected regions.
