Jamaica recorded two new monkeypox cases last week, bringing the total number of recorded cases on the island to 18 as of Sunday (November 20).

One case was recorded in St Catherine, the first for the parish, and the other was recorded in Kingston and St Andrew. Both cases habe been identified as locally transmitted, meaning the virus was contracted on the island.

The positive patients were identified as two males between the ages of 16 and 52 years old.

There are currently two active cases on the island, and an additional person has recovered from the virus.

The Kingston and St Andrew Municipality accounts for the majority of the cases reported, with a total of 10 confirmed.

In the meantime, the number of cases reported in Clarendon, St James and St Elizabeth remains at two each, with one case reported in Manchester. As previously stated, St Catherine recorded its first case.

There is still one death under investigation.
