Jamaica has signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Paris with Korea.
The deal was inked by the Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA), the Korean Paralympic Committee (KPC) of the Republic of Korea (South Korea), and the BDH Foundation and represents a significant breakthrough in para sports.
The agreement brings together both national organizations and the Korean foundation to collaborate in areas such as athlete development, welfare, coaching and referee education, classification, technical official training, sports marketing, and the advancement of high-performance sports. This three-way cooperation agreement is also designed to act as a model for global collaboration in sports.
President of the Korean Paralympic Committee, Jin-owan Jung, expressed his full support for the initiative saying, “I am so pleased that NPC Korea and BDH Paras Foundation has started working together with the Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA) for the development of para sports in Jamaica. We hope that this first step will advance the development of the Paralympic movement not only in Jamaica but the Caribbean region.”
In his response, JPA President Christopher Samuda remarks, “This is a sweeping approach to sport diplomacy and mutuality across oceans and continents and the JPA embraces the friendship of the Korea Paralympic Committee and BDH Foundation as we transition onto the international stage talent we have in para sports including archery, surfing, badminton, judo, fencing and wheelchair basketball.”
For his part, BDH Chairman, Bae Dong-hyun, emphasized how this initiative aligns with the foundation’s mission of creating a more inclusive and fulfilling world adding, “I am honoured to announce the agreement with the Korea Paralympic Committee and the Jamaica Paralympic Association to advance Para Sports. This collaboration aligns perfectly with the vision of the BDH Paras Foundation. I am hopeful it will make a meaningful impact on the Paralympic Movement in both Korea and Jamaica.” At the signing ceremony, all three parties reaffirmed their dedication to the values of Paralympism and called for unity in sports across borders.
