Jamaican drowns, brother missing in US while on work-and-travel programme

A Jamaican family has been plunged into mourning after the drowning of one of two brothers in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts in the United States on Sunday (August 14).

The body of Tavaris Bulgin was found while the search continued for his brother, Tavaughn who was still missing after the two reportedly jumped into the ocean from the ‘Jaws Bridge’ in Massachusetts.

The brothers, who are in their 20s, were summer workers and had gone swimming.

It is reported that the body of Tavaris was found around 6:30 am at Sengekontacket Pond.

Oak Bluffs Police Chief Jonathan Searle told news outlets that the missing swimmer is presumed dead.

According to reporters, the brothers’ parents had to be taken to the May Pen Hospital on hearing the tragic news.

The search for Tavaughn is said to be focusing on the ocean side of the bridge.

Jaws Bridge is a popular tourist attraction on the island. Despite signs and warnings, many people jump from the bridge, especially during summer time.
