The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade says due to the worsening situation resulting from the increased COVID-19 infections, which has negatively impacted its operations, the Consulate General in New York City has been forced into a 10-day closure.

The ministry, in a statement last Friday (December 31), further explained that the temporary closure to the public would last from the end of the year to January 9, 2022.

“Emergencies will be addressed on a case-by-case basis and by appointment. Please note that there could be delays in the processing of all services customarily provided by the Consulate General,” the ministry said.

Queries related to Jamaican passport and citizenship services can also be directed to the Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), headquartered in Kingston, by visiting www.pica.gov.jm or by email to [email protected].

Clients may also call 876-754-7422, Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The Consulate General apologises in advance for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure, and counts on the patience and understanding of its clients and the wider public.

“We encourage members of the public to observe all protocols and to keep safe and well,” the ministry disclosed.
