Jamaican Government grants Elaine Thompson-Herah diplomatic passport

Fresh from her Olympic exploits, the Andrew Holness administration today (December 7) handed Elaine Thompson-Herah a diplomatic passport to represent the country.

In a short statement, Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the diplomatic passport presentation was done at Jamaica House during a courtesy call on the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

Holness lauded Thompson-Herah’s athletic prowess, adding that the entire country was proud of her exceptional standard-bearing for Jamaica on the international stage.

Also in attendance was Sports and Culture Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange’.

“I am pleased to announce that the Government of Jamaica has approved the issuance of a diplomatic passport to Mrs Elaine Thompson-Herah. This morning, I officially presented the documents to Elaine during a courtesy call at the Office of the Prime Minister,” he said in a Facebook post.

“Elaine has displayed the best of Jamaica with extraordinary talent, confidence and passion. I used the opportunity this morning to congratulate Elaine on being awarded the 2021 World Athletics Female Athlete of the Year. We are very proud of her achievements and encourage her to continue breaking records and expanding brand Jamaica,” Holness added.

For her part, Thompson-Herah expressed gratitude for the document.

The fastest woman alive is the second Jamaican since Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann Singh to receive a diplomatic passport.
