A Jamaican man who was deported from America and later returned to the country illegally was sentenced to six months in prison in Hartford federal court on Tuesday for lying on a US passport application.

He is 47-year-old Marlon Damian White, also known as Damian Marlon White, a Jamaican, who last lived in Hartford. Court documents and statements show that White was admitted to the US as a lawful permanent resident in 1995.

However, prosecutors point out he was convicted of various offences in the years that followed. White’s offences include a state conviction in New York for second-degree assault, as well as a federal conviction in the Southern District of New York for a drug distribution violation, for which he was sentenced to two years in prison.

Following his federal conviction, his status as a lawful permanent resident of the US was revoked and he was deported to Jamaica.

False declarations made

Prosecutors note that White later returned to the US illegally. On May 6, 2024, he used a false name, false birth date and false place of birth to apply for a US passport in Hartford.

In the process of applying, White provided officials with a fake birth certificate and a driver’s license that falsely represented he was born and raised in California. White was arrested on October 9 last year and has been detained since.

He pleaded guilty to the offence on December 15, 2025. American authorities say that when White completes his prison term, he will be removed to Jamaica again.
