Jamaican Olympian Junelle Bromfield has accepted American athletics great Noah Lyles’ marriage proposal during a beautifully organised romantic setting on Saturday, October 12.

In a video released on the couples’ Instagram pages, showed the hot tracks couple walking hand-in-hand and as they entered through a door, the lowly lit entrance illuminated.

Lyles and Bromfield were all smiles as the flashes from cameras of family and friends went off, they made their way to a floor littered with pink rose petals towards a huge pink and white heart, to Robert ‘Bobby’ Caldwell’s 1978 hit song What You Won’t Do For Love.

Inside the heart was the question, Will You Marry Me? Lyles, then held Bromfield’s hand, went on his knees and popped the question. The elegantly dressed Jamaican quarter-miler, wearing a shining silver dress, helped Lyles up and kissed her fiancee. The golden boy and new face of athletics was decked in a black suit with a gold strip on the side of his pants.

Lyles, 27, and Bromfield, 26, have been communicating for years since 2017 with Bromfield, admitting on Asafa Powell’s Fastlane Blog that she “slid” into Lyles’ DM on social media.

Then in 2018 after he competed at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica, they went to the Taboo Strip club along with other athletes but things still didn’t hit off between them then.

They both had other relationships that didn’t work out until years after they met again at the 2021 Olympics by then they were both single again and available and actually started dating. It was a romance story formed between two athletes from the two biggest sprint rival countries in track and field that put Bromfield in an uncomfortable position between love of country or love of spouse as evidenced by the ugly social media attacks she received.

Only recently, Bromfield a native of St Elizabeth, now living with Lyles, revealed she was afraid to return to Jamaica based on the death threats she received on social media.

Just before the 2024 Olympic Games, Lyles revealed he knew everything about Jamaican athletics and his main rivals from Bromfield, a “pillow talk” that irked the Jamaican public as a sort of betrayal from her.

But what Lyles revealed was no secret as the public already knew of the issues between former MVP teammates Elaine Thompson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce plus the injuries to Kishane Thompson and Oblique Seville. Still, coming from Lyles it posed a problem.

But both are over that now and Bromfield posted a video after she accepted the marriage proposal, stepping out to Lady Lava’s song Ring Finger which says “If you don’t have a ring then you don’t have a mister. Let me see your finger,” as she displayed her engagement ring.
