The Jamaican parliament has commenced its annual summer recess.

Last week, both Houses of Parliament adjourned for a date to be fixed, indicating the start of their summer recess.

In a statement today, the Jamaican legislature formally advised the public that the parliament is now on summer recess. 

As such, there will be no business of the parliament until its resumption in September.

The 14th Parliament was sworn in on September 15, 2020, after being elected following the 2020 Jamaican general election. 

Fresh general election is constitutionally due this September, but the prime minister has yet to announce the date.

It is anticipated that the general elections will be held before parliament resumes meeting in September.
