With the Ministry of Health and Wellness boasting it has achieved 94 per cent of its target inoculations for the first week of Jamaica’s national COVID-19 vaccination programme, the Government says starting Monday (March 22), citizens 75 year and older will be targeted in a weeklong vaccination drive.
The inclusion of the elderly comes after 1,700 vials, each including 10 doses of vaccine, have already used since the arrival of a total of 64,400 doses in Jamaica this month.
Of those vials, one has been reported missing and Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton has suggested he is not overly concerned about the small number of doses that have gone to waste.
According to the health ministry, effective 10:00 a.m. Monday, persons within the age group of 75 years and older who wish to receive the COVID-19 vaccine will be able to schedule vaccination appointments.
METHODS TO APPLY FOR APPOINTMENTS
To make an appointment, the citizen or their caregivers must employ one of the following methods:
- Book directly online via the Ministry of Health & Wellness’ website at https://www.moh.gov.jm;
- Call the Vaccination Call Centre Hotline at 888-ONE-LOVE (888-663-5683);
- Call or visit their Parish Health Department or Local Health Centre; or
- Call or visit their private doctor.
To complete the appointment process, persons will need to provide their full name, telephone number, age, and home address.
Once the information is submitted, the registration will be entered into a prioritisation system and a confirmation of the appointment date will then be sent via email, call or text message.
On the day of their appointment, persons are reminded to arrive to centres at their designated appointment time and to bring a government-issued form of identification (i.e. Driver’s Licence, Voter’s identification or passport).
Individuals should also be reminded to wear a mask, sanitise and maintain physical distancing on their arrival to the vaccination centres.
