Jamaicans across all major social media platforms are expressing their outrage more wasn’t done by the Government after health officials cleared US national Kalina Collier to leave the island on Sunday (February 14).

Collier, the 22-year-old American Jetblue air stewardess, went viral on social media over the weekend after she alleged she was being held against her will while in isolation at the all-inclusive Ocean Coral Spring resort in Trelawny.

After public outcry and several investigations were made, it was discovered Collier lied about her “ordeal” in an effort to leave the state-sanctioned quarantine following her testing positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Our Today understands she was mere days from completing her 14-day isolation and was being housed at the Trelawny hotel at no expense to her.

Collier, who later deleted her Instagram Live video, later posted without apology that the allegations were false. She was cleared to leave by Jamaican officials around 1:30 pm and booked a flight with her mother to be repatriated to the US.

After getting thousands of people to believe she was in danger, Kalina simply deleted her video and posted this vague Instagram post before turning off the comments. (photo: @haaylinaa)

Jamaicans, watching the entire situation unfold in real-time, were livid and felt stronger measures needed to be placed on the American.

“Imagine. Cayman Islands threw someone in jail with a conviction of 4 months because she broke quarantine for 2 days. This girl caused a HUGE scandal and garnered international attention and she gets to leave Scot-free. Are you lot not embarrassed??” a Jamaican Twitter user asked.

Many argue that Collier should have been charged with public mischief, while others have called out Jetblue Airlines to issue a statement on the matter.

“I hope the government file legal action against her. She should not get away with this because she is harming the reputation of the country,” one Jamaican woman wrote on Facebook.

“Hopefully, JetBlue will fire her and the government declare her persona non grata and ban her from ever again setting foot on the island,” another man commented.

Some went further to demand that she be imprisoned for her salacious, false narrative and Jamaicans on Twitter felt Collier’s stunt did way more harm for actual victims of human trafficking.

Crying wolf: Why Kalina Collier should be fined and banned from ever returning to Jamaica

The American is the number one trending topic on Twitter since the news broke of her fabricated “kidnapping”.

“Human Trafficking is a REAL ISSUE. Girls, boys and women face this issue all the time. For this girl #KalinaCollier to use this to circumvent rules and regulations is a slap in the face to actual ppl facing this issue,” @mamachell tweeted.

Others in the Jamaican Twitterati drew parallels to Kristen Gray, another black American who was deported from Indonesia after she was encouraging others to migrate to the South-east Asian country.

Gray, whose visa was still valid, was banned after she and her partner were found violated Indonesian immigration laws and the purpose of her visa by inviting people to Bali during a pandemic, selling eBooks, and charging tourism consulting rates.

“First #Bali, now #Jamaica. Not even two full months into 2021 and this #KalinaCollier situation presents another example of Americans wielding their passports in an attempt to evade another country’s laws. Charge her,” @caribbean_cece tweeted.
