Hours after coming out to the world, reggae songbird Lila Iké continues to receive copious messages of love, support and solidarity from Jamaicans at home and across the diaspora on Twitter.
It is unclear what prompted the Stars Align songstress to take such a brave step, in the eyes of many, however, Iké took to Twitter Sunday night (November 14) to reintroduce herself to her growing fan base.
“I am Lila Ike I am into women and I’ve been making reggae music,” she wrote.
Iké apparently may be the victim of blackmail, as subsequent cryptic tweets after her coming out, revealed images of her are circulating and she wanted the world to hear her truth in-person rather than fuel speculation on social media.
“If pictures are released I said it here,” the Thy Will singjay further stated.
The tweets were immediately picked up on by the Jamaican Twitterati, thousands of whom declared her sexual orientation was no one’s business but she was loved and appreciated just the same.
Some, persuing Iké’s tweets, expressed concern for her wellbeing but the artiste’s team reached out via an Instagram story to confirm she was doing okay and thanked Jamaicans for their understanding.
Among those standing in solidarity with the 27-year-old musician born Alecia Grey was fellow dancehall artiste Tesselated and rising reggae singer/songwriter Jesse Royal.
There were just a few others, however, who were critical of her announcement.
