Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Brian Wallace has been appointed Co-Chair of its Informal Ad Hoc Working Group on Mandate Implementation Review.

He will be working alongside Ambassador Carolyn Schwalger of New Zealand. The appointment was made by the President of the UN General Assembly, Ambassador Annalena Charlotte Alma Baerbock, who is a German diplomat and politician of the Alliance 90/The Greens party.

In this Co-Chair role, Ambassador Wallace will lead a Member State–driven process aimed at strengthening how United Nations mandates are created, implemented, and reviewed. During the Discovery Phase of the process, they convened technical briefings and open consultations and engaged extensively with Member States and stakeholders. These discussions examined issues including mandate duplication, fragmentation, resource alignment and existing review mechanisms.

The Co-Chairs have since presented the Working Group’s Interim Report to the United Nations General Assembly. As the process moves into the Production Phase, Jamaica remains committed to supporting inclusive, transparent, and high-level engagement to help ensure UN mandates achieve their intended impact.
