OT TOKYO | Jamaica’s Lawrence moves into the final of women’s discus

Jamaica’s Shadae Lawrence finished 11th in the women’s discus Saturday morning (Friday night Jamaica time) to be among the 12 throwers that progressed from the qualifying round to the Tokyo Olympic Games’ final.

Only two throwers, Valarie Allman of the United States (US) with 66.42 metres and Kamalpreet Kaur of India, who was exact with 64 metres, made the automatic qualifying mark of 64 metres. Both competed in Group B of the qualifiers.
The other 10 qualifiers were the next best throwers, with Lawrence, in Group A, throwing 62.27 on her second attempt after 59.55 on the first and then fouling her third.

Lawrence was the third farthest distance in the group.
